Pack the Court- “Free Justine” – Bond Hearing

Help us pack the court to Justine’s bond date! Justine has been detained in West County Detention for 6 months and is set to ask for bond. Please join us at his hearing to show our support for his release and welcoming another immigrant neighbor! Contact svazquez@im4humanintegrity.org if you can attend.

The Oakland City Council Public Safety Committee is meeting to discuss sanctuary policy and question Chief of Police Kirkpatrick’s actual implementation of our city’s policy, including OPD involvement in August’s ICE Raid at a West Oakland family home.

Pilgrimage/Encuentro to the Border
November 8th -12th
Please pray with us as our group of 9 travels to participate in the the Encuentro of the School of the Americas (SOAW.prg) on the border of Arizona and Mexico.

An estimated 28,000 undocumented immigrants live and work in Sonoma County. Unlike other victims of the fires that have devastated Sonoma County, undocumented immigrants do not qualify for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Lack of immigration status, limited English proficiency, and fear of immigration enforcement will also impede their access to disaster-relief services, even when they are eligible. Lack of familiarity or comfort with law enforcement, county departments, and financial institutions present additional barriers. Consequently, the fire victims will face significant challenges in meeting basic needs and rebuilding their lives here in Sonoma County where the cost of living is very high.

THE UNDOCUFUND WILL ENSURE THAT UNDOCUMENTED FAMILIES IN SONOMA COUNTY IMPACTED BY THE FIRES WILL HAVE THE SUPPORT AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO RECOVER AND REBUILD.

Oct 31, San Francisco: Migrants in the Pulpit at Calvary Presbyterian Church (video)

From May to October 2017, the Free SF Coalition and Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity facilitated 16 Sanctuary Dialogues in Bay Area congregations and organizations in order to expand our moral vision around sanctuary and actions toward community safety. During a Sanctuary Dialogue, speakers share their migration journeys at congregations’ worship services while also bringing awareness to the impacts of current and historical immigration and criminal justice systems. In light of San Francisco’s history as a Sanctuary City and Sanctuary Movement by people of faith, our hope is to humanize the immigrant narrative especially for those most in danger for deportation – immigrants who also hold a former conviction.

Pilgrimage to Encuentro at the Border

We invite you to join us our pilgrimage from California to Nogales, AZ – Sonora, Mexico, to witness a region divided by a highly militarized U.S. Border Patrol and to attend the School of the America’s Watch Encuentro at the Border.

It will be a journey that will move us to re-envision the US/Mexico Border as a Bridge of Encounter.

Goals for the Pilgrimage

◈ Join a national faith-rooted mobilization to enhance your current ministry with greater awareness and advocacy about the U.S.- Mexico border and migrant issues.
◈ Deepening understanding of how we are co-responsible to address the root causes, border policy, and become welcoming sanctuaries that advocate for an all-encompassing migrant justice.
◈ Foster collective hope, compassion, and resiliency during this year of anti-immigrant political challenges.

Itinerary

Wednesday, November 8th: Travel day and community bonding
IM4 Human Integrity Members from the Inland Valleys (San Bernardino and Riverside Counties) and the Bay Area will meet*. During the road trip from Ontario, CA to Nogales, AZ we will share about the distinctive IM 4 Human Integrity faith-rooted work on immigrant justice in these two regions. *Note: those from NorCal will have the option to carpool or fly to Ontario.

Thursday, November 9th: Immersion in Tuscon, AZ
At Tuscon, we will be hosted by Good Shepherd at the United Church of Christ, that has been involved in border justice efforts for many years. They will show us how they respond to the needs of migrants that cross the desert in Arizona.

Friday, November 10th: SOAW Border Encuentro
We will begin with a community lunch and participate in various forums and workshops. Then we will attend a vigil at Eloy Detention Center. Finally, we will enjoy a welcome concert in Tucson.

Saturday, November 11th: SOAW Border Encuentro
We will attend a rally at the U.S./Mexico border, participate in more forums and workshops, and then go to a concert at the border.

Sunday, November 12th: SOAW Border Encuentro
We will see a puppetistas show and then listen to featured speakers and artists on building bridges of justice to root causes of migration, demilitarization of the border, and ending the criminalization of immigration in the U.S. Next, we will attend a reading of No Más, No more. Finally we will attend the Encuentro Closing.

Registration Logistics

Cost for the trip will be approximately 250$
(limited scholarships available for grassroots faith leaders).

Space is limited on our Pilgrimage….but others can definitely meet us and attend the SOA Encuentro on their own.
